Ways that I work
Brenna uses an integrated mix of therapies to support you in reaching your goals in a way that makes sense for you, your comfort and your preferences.
Brainspotting
tapping into the brain and body’s innate ability to heal itself
Brainspotting is a neurophysiological and somatic therapy that uses the visual field, your body awareness and focused mindfulness, and the therapist’s attunement to process traumatic information stored in subcortical parts of the brain. It doesn’t require language to process trauma like talk therapies. Clients process different thoughts, memories, feelings, and physical sensations, and report experiencing rapid and lasting changes in their well-being. It is not uncommon for profound insights to arise. Brainspotting is used to process traumatic events, and is also often used to enhance personal goals, creativity and athletics.
Somatic Experiencing
releasing traumatic shock to access states of resilience and ease
Somatic Experiencing is an immersive therapeutic experience, using mindfulness, talk therapy and body sensing to access and release stuck energy underlying traumatic experiences and chronic stress, which are stored in the body and lead to nervous system dysregulation. By moving through protective responses in a safe and controlled space with a therapist, you support your nervous system in fully processing and discharging them, leading to increased tolerance for different body sensations and emotional responses.
Attachment-focused EMDR
sensitively processing unresolved trauma with flexibility, attunement and connection
Attachment-focused EMDR uses the same framework as traditional EMDR, with a focus on repairing developmental and attachment injuries. It offers a flexible, sensitive approach to EMDR while supporting clients in accessing rapid growth and healing.
traditional psychotherapy
connecting the subconscious with conscious awareness
Traditional psychotherapy involves elements of talk therapy to connect the conscious awareness to the embodied experience. Talk therapy can support you in integrating and understanding your experiences in new ways, and learning new skills and ways to regulate your body and emotions. This type of therapy can support you in building greater awareness and a conscious connection to your personal experience and responses. Modalities include Ego State therapy, Lifespan Integration, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, among others.
